CheckPoint at Melbourne International Games Week

This week in Melbourne, the games industry, game enthusiasts and the general public gather for the largest digital games celebration in Asia Pacific. It’s called the Melbourne International Games Week. The week began on the 29th October, continuing until the 7th November, and is filled with a huge variety of events, conferences and activities.

CheckPoint is absolutely honoured to be the official Mental Health partner of Melbourne International Games Week, and we will have a presence throughout the week across many different events to share our work, and provide care and support for all.

Unite and GCAP

The week is off to a wonderful start already, with our Executive Director, Dr Jennifer Hazel presenting a lecture on 31st October Unite, entitled “The Right Frame of Mind: Portrayal of Mental Illness in Storytelling.” On November 1st at the annual Game Connect Asia Pacific conference, Dr Hazel will present a lecture on mental health in game development environments entitled “Your Mental Health is Not an Optional Side Quest.”

PAX Australia

Later in the week at PAX Australia, Dr Hazel and Jane Cocks will be presenting on eight panels, and across a wide variety of topics, from the psychology behind the videogame Dark Souls, to engaging in some medical mythbusting, and will also be returning with one of last years most popular panels – More Than A Game: Playing for Mental Health and Connection.
